Appellate Division Judge Ariel A. Rodríguez was appointed to the bench by Gov. Thomas H. Kean and took the oath of office on Dec. 5, 1985. He was re-nominated, with tenure, by Gov. Jim Florio in 1992.
Judge Rodríguez served in the family, civil and criminal divisions of the Hudson Vicinage until Sept. 1, 1993, when he was elevated to the Appellate Division. He has served on temporary assignment to the Supreme Court since Oct. 1, 2012.

Born in Cuba in 1947, Judge Rodríguez was educated in the United States. A graduate of Rutgers University and Rutgers School of Law – Camden, Judge Rodríguez began his legal career in 1973 in the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office. In 1976, he left public service to form a law partnership where he worked until 1984, teaching legal courses part-time at Hudson County Community College. In 1984, he was named counsel to the Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company, where he worked until his appointment to the bench.
