Chief Justice Forms Committee to Speed Resolution of Civil Actions

Chief Justice Stuart Rabner has announced the formation of the Supreme Court Advisory Committee on Expedited Civil Actions to focus on how to expedite litigation in actions filed in the civil part.

Chief Justice Rabner said, “Our goal is to achieve speedier justice at a lower cost without sacrificing due process and fairness to litigants.”

The committee also will develop proposals to improve the current expedited jury trial program.

Camden Vicinage Assignment Judge Faustino J. Fernandez-Vina and attorney Thomas R. Curtin will co-chair the committee. Click here for a full list of committee members.

The committee will consider and make recommendations to the Supreme Court regarding the types of cases appropriate for expedited civil action practice; pretrial procedures to expedite civil actions, trial practices to expedite civil actions; incentives for plaintiff and defense bar to use the expedited program;  case management modifications for an expedited program; and whether the court rules need to be amended or new rules adopted for such a program.
