Of the many lessons learned in youth, the ability to work with a team is one of the most important. This summer, juvenile probationers will have a chance to practice this when they meet to participate in the 23rd annual Judiciary Olympics in Toms River, Ocean County.

The event will take place on Thursday, July 29 at Toms River High School South. The rain date is Friday, July 30. The event will begin at 10:30 a.m. with opening ceremonies and will close at 1 p.m. with lunch and awards.

The Judiciary Olympics are sponsored by the Positive Interventions Committee of the juvenile probation unit of the New Jersey Judiciary probation division. The Olympics are meant for the probationers to develop character, sportsmanship and teamwork. The athletes will compete in track events, an obstacle course, jump rope, tug-of-war, football, basketball and softball throwing.

Last year, school and Judiciary personnel worked together to organize the activities for 131 juveniles who competed in the Olympic from 15 counties. Mercer Vicinage took home the first place trophy, Union Vicinage the second place trophy, and Hudson Vicinage the third place trophy.

The Positive Interventions Committee works to increase educational, recreational and social opportunities for young people on probation. They have various other events and field trips for the benefit of the juvenile probationers throughout New Jersey.
