Supreme Court to Hear Oral Argument: The Committee to Recall Robert Menendez v. Wells

Oral argument in the matter of The Committee to Recall Robert Menendez v. Wells (A-86-09) will be heard at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, May 25 in the Supreme Court courtroom on the 8th floor of the Hughes Justice Complex, 25 Market St., Trenton.

The issue before the court is: Was the New Jersey Secretary of State required to accept for filing and review a Notice of Intention to Recall United States Senator Robert Menendez under the Uniform Recall Election Law, N.J.S.A. 19:27A-1 to -19, or could the Secretary reject the filing on grounds of federal preemption?

Seating for the media is limited and will be reserved in the order requests are received. Only one seat will be reserved for each news organization. Reporters and photographers must wear press credentials to be admitted to the reserved seating area. Reporters are asked to be seated by 9:45 a.m. At 9:55, unused reserved seats will be given to reporters on a waiting list.

News outlets must make arrangements in advance to bring cameras into the courtroom. If necessary, pool cameras for both still and video will be designated. Call the Judiciary communications office at 609-292-9580 to reserve a seat and to make camera arrangements.

Allow time for passing through security in the Hughes Justice Complex lobby. Photo ID, preferably a driver’s license, must be shown.
