The New Jersey Judiciary has added a comprehensive statewide calendar of free public education opportunities to the Judiciary Web site, Judge Glenn A. Grant, acting administrative director of the courts, announced today.

“The new Web page enhances access to justice by giving the public a convenient resource for finding opportunities to learn more about court operations and procedures,” said Judge Grant.  “We would love nothing better than to see every one of our seminars and workshops packed with people who want to learn about what the courts do, what resources we can provide and what guidance we can offer those who do business with the courts.”

The Judiciary offers frequent public education opportunities, including seminars, workshops, information fairs and public lectures.  The events are run by highly trained court staff and managers and, frequently, judges and attorneys.  A sampling of recent events includes a number of workshops for self-represented litigants who file motions in family courts, divorce workshops and seminars on how to expunge a criminal record.

“We are particularly interested in helping self-represented litigants come to court prepared and informed about our court procedures as well as their rights and responsibilities when they come to court,” said Judge Grant. “Well-informed litigants help our courts run more smoothly and efficiently, which makes for a better system of justice for everyone.”

Many of the public education programs are offered by the Office of the Ombudsman in each vicinage.  The Ombudsman Program provides guidance and materials for those seeking to navigate the Superior Court process.

To find the Public Education Calendar, go to njcourts.com and look in the left-hand menu for “Ombudsman Program,” then look for the link to “Court Seminars and Public Events.”  The calendar includes the place and time of the event, registration information and contact information.
