New Jersey Bar Association President Peggy Sheahan Knee to Speak at Bergen County Law Day Program
New Jersey State Bar Association President Peggy Sheahan Knee will give the keynote address at the Bergen County Law Day ceremony on Friday, May 1 at the Bergen County Court House, 10 Main St., Hackensack, today announced Assignment Judge Peter E. Doyne.
Prior to the keynote address, the Bergen Vicinage will host school children from throughout Bergen County. They will meet with this year's Law Day chairman, Superior Court Judge Joseph S. Conte, at 1:30 p.m.. In addition to meeting Judge Conte, the children will participate in an educational program presented by the courts and the Bergen County Sheriff's Office K-9 Unit.
At 3 p.m., the children will join judges, court staff, attorneys and other invited guests at the Bergen Vicinage Law Day ceremony. In addition to Ms. Knee, speakers will include include Bergen County Executive Dennis McNerny and Bergen County Bar Association President Anthony M. Carlino. Judge Doyne will perform a naturalization ceremony for 25 new citizens.
In attendance will be a number of youth who are receiving awards for their Law Day essay and poster contest entries, as well as the Bergen County mock trial champions, Indian Hills High School.
Superior Court Judge Donald R. Venezia, will sing the National Anthem, and the Ridgefield Park High School Chorus, under the direction of Mr. Paul Simeone, will perform.
Law Day was established in 1958 by President Dwight D. Eisenhower as an occasion to celebrate our nation's great heritage of liberty, justice, and equality under law. The Law Day theme for this year is "A Legacy of Liberty: Celebrating Lincoln's Bicentennial."
