Janet Zatz Named Assistant Director of Human Resources

Acting Administrative Director Judge Glenn A. Grant today named Janet Share Zatz the new assistant director of human resources. Zatz succeeds Brooks Durbin, who recently retired.

Ms. Zatz will oversee the development and implementation of human resources policies and procedures as well as recruitment, classification, compensation, performance management and labor and employee relations functions for more than 9,000 Judiciary employees.

"Janet brings to us 25 years of experience in all aspects of human resource management, from employee development to labor relations. Her expertise in the field makes her an excellent choice for this position," said Judge Grant.

Ms. Zatz comes to the Judiciary from the Department of Children and Families (DCF), where she has served as the director of administration since February 2008. Before that appointment, she served as the director of human resources, labor relations and workforce development from 2006 to 2008.

From 2004 to 2006, Ms. Zatz held the post of deputy commissioner of the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development. From 1983 to 2004, she served the Department of Personnel, starting as a deputy director and moving up to the position of chief of staff.

An attorney, Ms. Zatz holds a law degree from Rutgers School of Law - Newark, as well as a Bachelor of Arts from Cornell University.

She began her career as law secretary to Appellate Division Judge Leon S. Milmed from 1979 to 1980, then joined the Department of Law and Public Safety as a deputy attorney general where she provided legal counsel to the Department of Civil Service, later named the Department of Personnel.

"I am excited to join the Judiciary in this position and I look forward to working with the staff and judges to serve the people of New Jersey," said Ms. Zatz.

Ms. Zatz lives in West Windsor with her husband, Irving. They have two sons: Jonathan, age 24, of Manhattan, and Eric, age 20, in his junior year of college.
