Essex Vicinage to Hold Criminal and Juvenile Record Expungement Seminar
Newark, NJ—New Jersey Superior Court Essex Vicinage will hold an expungement seminar on Thursday, Jan. 10th. The seminar will take place at the Vision of Hope Community Development Corporation located at 111-119 Sussex Avenue, 2nd floor in Newark from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
An arrest or conviction record often is revealed when a person applies for a job, school or military service. The purpose of New Jersey’s expungement law is to give a person who has either one or very few convictions a “fresh start.” The law also provides for the removal of records of arrests where the arrest did not end in a conviction.
Conducting the seminar will be representatives from the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office, Linda P. Torres from Newark Reentry Legal Services (ReLeSe) and judiciary staff.
Essex Vicinage has organized this seminar in an attempt to answer many of the questions that the public has about expungements. Some of the issues that will be addressed at the seminar include the process for criminal and juvenile expungements, the types of records that can be expunged, the time requirements for an expungement and what happens after an expungement is granted.
This is a free seminar. Those wishing to attend are asked to call the Essex Vicinage Information and Community Relations Center at 973-693-5725/5774 to reserve a seat, as space is limited.
