Monmouth Vicinage 2007 Law Day Celebration

The Superior Court of New Jersey, Monmouth Vicinage and the Monmouth Bar Association will conduct their annual Law Day ceremony on Tuesday, May 1 at 4 p.m. in the Hall of Records General Equity courtroom, located at Main and Court Streets in Freehold Borough.

The Monmouth Vicinage, like communities across the nation, has planned a commemoration of Law Day using this year's theme, "Liberty Under Law: Empowering Youth, Assuring Democracy." This year marks the 50th anniversary of Law Day, which is designated as a celebration of our nation's great heritage of liberty, justice, and equality under law.

Chief Justice James R. Zazzali will deliver Law Day remarks by videotape. Supreme Court Associate Justice Roberto A. Rivera-Soto will deliver the keynote address. Other speakers include Assignment Judge Lawrence M. Lawson and Monmouth Bar Association President Mitchell J. Ansell.

During the ceremony, the Honorable Daniel J. O'Hern Mock Trial Award will be presented to Colts Neck High School for winning this year's Monmouth County High School Mock Trial Competition. In addition, David K. Ansell, Esquire will be named as the recipient of the Monmouth Bar Association Abraham J. Zager Professionalism Award. The program will also include a musical selection by Monmouth Vicinage employee Tarika Jean-Pierre, and a Color Guard presentation by Boy Scout Troop 180 of Tennent, N.J.

Assignment Judge Lawson will present plaques to the winners of the Law Day 2007 essay and art contest sponsored by the Monmouth Vicinage Advisory Committee on Minority Concerns. The winners are Danielle Brex, Howell; Amelia Carlson, Wall; Katie Fitzgerald, Wall; Alyssa Gallipani, Middletown; Ali Hashimee, Howell; Evan Johnson, Freehold; Therese Kavtaradze, Lake Como; Patrick McHugh, Avon; Justin Nguyen, Freehold; Christian Phipps, Spring Lake Heights; Diana Reyes, Freehold Borough; and Dominika Rybaltowski, Howell.

The Monmouth Vicinage will continue its Law Day celebration with community outreach programs as listed below:

May 4 Educational Program for students to be hosted for two schools at the courthouse. Reporters and photographers planning to attend are asked to make arrangements in advance.
May 5 Asian Heritage Festival in Manalapan, NJ; Monmouth Vicinage employees will staff an informational exhibit at this festival. This exhibit is open to the public.
May 11 Law Informational Fair to be held at the courthouse from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The program will provide courthouse tours, seminars on court topics and job/volunteer opportunities, and Ask-a-Lawyer sessions. This program is open to the public.
May 12 Legal Expo 2007; An informational exhibit will be displayed at the Freehold Raceway Mall. This exhibit is open to the public.
May 24, May 25 The Latino Issues Convention and Business Exposition. An informational Judiciary exhibit, coordinated by the Monmouth Vicinage, will be displayed. This exhibit is open to the public.
