Judiciary Wins Astra Awards for Newsletter

Judiciary Times, the statewide newsletter of the New Jersey Judiciary, has been awarded two silver Astra Awards for Excellence in Writing from the New Jersey Communications, Advertising and Marketing Association (NJ CAMA). The awards were presented during the recent annual awards ceremony at Mercer County Community College.

The Judiciary also received gold and silver Astra Awards in 2004 and 2006 in the Excellence in Writing: Newsletter category. This year, NJ CAMA received 300 entries, a 30 percent increase over last year's submissions. A panel of independent experts from major advertising and marketing firms in the tri-state area judged the entries.

Linda Brown Holt, the founding editor and principal writer of the Judiciary Times, accepted the awards on behalf of the Judiciary. Holt authored both of the award-winning articles; her recent article "Staff Who Keep on Giving" earned a silver award for Excellence in Writing: Newsletter, while another of her articles "Judiciary Skills on Duty in Iraq" won a silver award for Excellence in Writing: Feature Story.

"We are very proud of Judiciary Times, which has become a critical communication tool to educate our workforce and the public about our outstanding programs, initiatives and colleagues in the Judiciary," said Judge Philip S. Carchman, acting administrative director of the courts.

Judiciary Times is published four times a year and has a circulation of more than 10,000. Issued under the direction of Winnie Comfort, director of communications, the Judiciary Times provides information to judges, court staff and the public about Judiciary news and events. Articles are contributed by staff members around the state. The Judiciary Times can also be found online at www.njcourtsonline.com.

The names of Judiciary employees who contributed articles to Judiciary Times in 2006 are listed below.
