New Jersey Superior Courts to Celebrate Unity Day in Local Courthouses

Vicinage 15 of the New Jersey Courts, which comprises Salem, Gloucester and Cumberland Counties, will celebrate its first annual Unity Day with food, music, and cultural displays in each of the three counties. Members of the public, including the press, are invited to attend.

Vicinage 15 Assignment Judge Georgia M. Curio stated, “Unity Day is a perfect way to acknowledge and celebrate the different cultures that make up our great nation.” She added, “Vicinage 15 is committed to raising awareness about cultural diversity to ensure a better understanding of our community.”

The theme for this year’s Unity Day is “The Sweetness of Diversity.” The divisions participating include Family, Probation, Criminal, Civil, Finance, Human Resources, Operations, and Court Administration. Each division has chosen a country and will prepare traditional dishes from that country with an emphasis on desserts. In addition, there will be a presentation/display focusing on the culture of each country with recordings of traditional music. Each presentation/display will include maps, flags, traditional dress and material about the language(s) and religion(s) of each country. Entertainment by invited performers will provide further insight into the traditions and culture of some of the selected countries.
