Free Training Opportunity Available for Legal Affairs Journalists
On Aug. 8-9, 2005 the Donald W. Reynolds National Center for Courts and Media (NCCM) will offer a two-day course on basic legal affairs reporting for journalists who cover trials and other court events. Tuition, airfare, meals and lodging for the 30 journalists selected to attend will be paid through a grant from the Donald W. Reynolds Foundation.
The course will cover topics such as legal terminology, court structure, procedures and rules, conflicting needs of a free press and a fair trial, judicial ethical restraints that may complicate reporters’ efforts to cover a story, ethics guidelines for journalists reporting on legal issues, and the issues involved in covering a high-profile trial.
Additional information on the course, and on NCCM, can be obtained from their Web site at http www.judges.org/nccm/. The course application also can be accessed from the site. The deadline for faxed applications is June 20.
The phone number for NCCM is 775-327-8271.
