Chief Justice Names 5th Member for the Atlantic County Freeholder District Commission

In accordance with N.J.S.A. 40:41A-118, Chief Justice Deborah T. Poritz today selected Herman D. Michels, Judge of the Appellate Division (retired) to serve as the fifth commissioner of the Atlantic County Freeholder District Commission. The commission is charged with the responsibility of realigning freeholder district boundaries in the county.
Judge Michels, a Republican, graduated from Muhlenberg College in 1950 and Rutgers Law School in 1953. After almost twenty years in the private practice of law, he was appointed to the Superior Court in September, 1972 and elevated to the Appellate Division of the Superior Court in April of 1974. He was named Presiding Judge for Administration of the Appellate Division in September of 1985, a position he held until his retirement from the bench in 1997.
He is currently Of Counsel to Gibbons, Del Deo, Dolan, Griffinger & Vecchione, a private law firm in Newark, New Jersey.
