New Jersey Chief Justice Deborah T. Poritz signed an order appointing Jeffrey A. Newman Deputy Clerk for Administrative Services for the Appellate Division of New Jersey Superior Court. The Chief Justice's Order, signed on January 8, calls for the appointment to be effective on the taking of his oath of office at a salary to be determined in accordance with Judiciary salary regulations.

Newman will take the oath of office on Friday, January 11, at 2 p.m., at the Hackensack chambers of Judge Sylvia B. Pressler, presiding judge of the Appellate Division, who will conduct the swearing-in. Judge Pressler's chambers are located at Court Plaza North, 25 Main Street, 5th floor.

As deputy clerk, Newman will be responsible for overseeing personnel, budget and other administrative services of the Appellate Division, as well as continuing to oversee reporting services and technology applications. Also included among Newman's responsibilities are library services, security, and other management duties for the Appellate Division.

"Jeff is a dedicated and talented employee of the Appellate Division," said Judge Pressler. "We are delighted that he has been appointed Deputy Clerk."

Newman joined the Judiciary in 1986 as a supervisor in the Trial Court Support Unit. He has served as Chief of Reporting Services and Chief of Technical Applications since 1992. While serving in that capacity, Newman was instrumental in establishing and maintaining a statewide videoconferencing network in every courthouse in the state, and in expanding audio conferencing capabilities to every civil, equity and family courtroom. These networks save time and money for the state and for litigants, while offering greater convenience and efficiency for those conducting business with the courts.

Newman, 52, holds a master's degree from Montclair State College and a bachelor's degree from Monmouth University, as well as a certificate in public management from Rutgers University. He currently resides in Oakhurst with his wife Nancy, an educator. His daughter Paige is a junior at Vassar College.
