Chief Justice Deborah T. Poritz Announces Appointment of Superior Court Judge George H. Stanger, Jr.

Chief Justice Deborah T. Poritz today announced the appointment of Superior Court Judge George H. Stanger, Jr., as the Assignment Judge for the Gloucester, Cumberland and Salem Vicinage. He will succeed long-time Assignment Judge Samuel DeSimone, who retires on April 1, 2000.
The Chief Justice said, "Over the past sixteen years, Judge Stanger has demonstrated strong leadership skills and proven to be a dedicated and talented trial judge. I am sure that Judge Stanger will continue his high level of service to the public and the legal community of his Vicinage and the State of New Jersey."
Judge Stanger, 57, of Vineland, as been a judge since July, 1983. Initially appointed by Governor Kean has a judge of the Cumberland County Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court, he became a Superior Court Judge on December 31, 1983. He served in the Family Division of the Superior Court in Cumberland County until he was named the Vicinage Family Division Presiding Judge on December 9, 1986. He served as the Presiding Judge until he was assigned to the Criminal Division in 1990. In March of 1994 he again was named the Vicinage Family Division Presiding Judge and held that position until he was reassigned to the Criminal Division, sitting in Cumberland County.
Before becoming a Superior Court judge, Judge Stanger served as Solicitor, Commercial Township (Cumberland County) as well as many law related activities including the District I Ethics Committee (where he was Vice-Chairman), the Cumberland County Ethics Committee, the Cumberland County Bar Association, and earlier, as an Assistant Prosecutor in the Cumberland County Prosecutors' Office.
Judge Stanger is a 1964 graduate of Syracuse University and a 1970 graduate of the Dickinson School of Law. He was a member of the U.S. Army (1964-1966). He and his wife of 35 years, Judith Findling Stanger, are the parents of two children, Regan, 28 and Ross, 26.
