Overview of the Family Division
The Family Division Presiding Judge and the Family
Division Manager work closely together to coordinate the operation of this
Division. There are two Assistant Family Division Managers and eight Team
Leaders in the Division. This is a complex Division with many docket
types. The Family Division processes
approximately 20,000 cases per year.
There are eight operational teams within the Family
Division that work closely with their assigned Judges:
A) Dissolution and Non-dissolution case types. There are four integrated teams that handle these docket types based upon a regional assignment- North, Central, South, and West. The teams are located in the Ocean County Justice Complex, 2nd floor, room 210/214, 120 Hooper Ave., Toms River, N.J. 08753 Telephone number: 732-929-2037.
- Dissolution - this docket type (FM)
involves the processing of all actions of Divorce, Nullity, and Separate
Maintenance.
- Non-Dissolution - this docket type (FD) involves the processing of actions involving Child Custody, Parenting Time (Visitation), Child Support (Establishment/Modification), Paternity, Spousal Support (when there is no divorce/nullity action), and Medical Support. Also included in this docket type are the Uniform Interstate Family Support Act (UIFSA) matters which involve the processing of out-of-state petitions for the establishment of paternity, child support, spousal support, medical support and the enforcement of existing child support orders.
B) Domestic Violence and Domestic Violence Contempt Unit There is one team
that handles all matters related to Domestic Violence cases. The Domestic
Violence docket type (FV) is processed in Room 175, 1st floor,

C) Juvenile Intake - This team handles all pre-dispositional matters involving Juvenile Delinquency (FJ). They oversee and monitor all detention and shelter admissions countywide as well as completing Social Investigations. Other functions include Intake Conferences and Juvenile Conference Committees as well as docketing and scheduling all cases for the northern region. D) Children in the Courts - This unit handles all matters involving children that have been placed out of home by the Division of Youth and Family Services. Dockets include (FN) Abuse and Neglect, (FG) Termination of Parental Rights, (FC) Child Placement Review, and (FL) Kinship Legal Guardianship. The Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) program is also within the unit. The Children in Courts unit is located in room 209 Ocean County Justice Complex, 120 Hooper Ave. Toms River, NJ 08753.
