The Ocean County Drug Court, established on April 1, 2002, conducted its eighth commencement ceremony on June 21, 2007 at the Ocean County Library's Mancini Room. Drug Court Judge, Honorable Barbara A. Villano presided over the proceedings which included remarks by graduate speakers Tammy W.

There were 11 graduates, Sonya A., Gary B., Rich B., Chris C., Nicole C., Sharon J. Jared P., Tiffany P., Stan S., Bobbi Jo V., Tammy W. There were 13 Drug Court participants who satisfied the intense requirements of the first three phases of Drug Court to qualify for commencement to Phase 4. They were Brianne B., Derrick D., Scott H., Glen H., Rob H., Drew M., Kim P., Herb P., Kathy Q., Omar R., Emily S., Karen O., Rob V. They will remain in Phase 4, which is closer to traditional probation, until they finally graduate at the end of their probationary term.

Additionally, the Honorable Eugene Serpentelli was presented with a placgue in recognition of his retirement and support over the years.

The Court provides an alternative to incarceration to non-violent, drug addicted offenders by way of intensive supervision through weekly meetings with the Drug Court Judge, close monitoring through probation and random urine testing. Participants are expected to complete in-patient treatment, if recommended, go to AA/NA meetings, get a sponsor, obtain employment, attend outpatient treatment and refrain from associating with those that use drugs and alcohol. There are presently 160 participants enrolled in the Ocean County Drug Court program in various phases.

The Ocean County Drug Court Team members include the Honorable Barbara A. Villano, Carole Martin, Drug Court Coordinator, George Koukos, Public Defender, John Foti, Prosecutor, Tom Chant, Investigator, Susan Cash & Heather Hynes, Substance Abuse Evaluators, Jay Calvetto, Team Leader, Cindy Fulham, Court Clerk, Maria Rotunno, Court Services Supervisor 2, Glen Gaboury, Angie Pinto, Andrea Espindola & Mike Cerullo, Probation Officers. The team would also like to thank the Honorable Peter J. Giovine for stepping in as Drug Court Judge this summer while on recall.
