NOTICE TO THE BAR
AMENDMENTS TO THE NEW JERSEY RULES OF EVIDENCE (TO BE EFFECTIVE JULY 1, 2005)
Pursuant to N.J.S.A. 2A:84A-35, attached is the Supreme Court's Order of September 15, 2004 adopting a number of amendments to the New Jersey Rules of Evidence. These amendments all relate to the elimination of gender-biased language in the Rules. The amendment proposals were presented at a public hearing conducted on May 19, 2004, in accordance with the requirements of N.J.S.A. 2A:84A-34. The January 30, 2004, report of the Supreme Court Committee on the Rules of Evidence, which presented the proposals acted on by the Court, was previously published for comment as part of the 2002-2004 rules cycle.
The Court's Order notes that the effective date of the amendments is July 1, 2005. The action of the Court is subject to the terms of N.J.S.A. 2A:84A-36.

It is ORDERED that, pursuant to N.J.S.A. 2A:84-33 and 2A:84A-36, the attached amendments to the following New Jersey Rules of Evidence (PDF) are adopted to be effective July 1, 2005:
