Re: Report of the Supreme Court Commission on the Rules of Professional Conduct – Reminder that Comment Period Ends April 15, 2003
The Supreme Court directed its Commission on the Rules of Professional Conduct to review the Rules (RPCs) to make recommendations in respect of the report of the American Bar Association's Commission on the Model Rules of Professional Conduct. The Court also asked the Commission to report on issues involving multijurisdictional and multidisciplinary practice, the retention of the "appearance-of-impropriety rule," the extension of the disqualification of a municipal prosecutor from criminal defense work to members and associates in the prosecutor's law firm, and the bona fide office requirement of Rule 1:21-1(a).
The Committee filed its report with the Court, which was published by the Court for written comment. The report can be found at the Judiciary’s website, <njcourtsonline.com>. Comments are due by April 15, 2003, and are to be submitted to me at the following address:

In addition to inviting written comments from the Bar, the Court has scheduled a public hearing on the Commission's report for Wednesday, April 23, 2003, beginning at 10:00 a.m. in the Supreme Court courtroom, Hughes Justice Complex, Trenton. If you are interested in making a presentation at the hearing, you must register with the Clerk's Office no later than April 15, 2003. Presentations will be limited to ten minutes. Late registrants will be heard if time permits and after the other registrants have been heard. The Court also will accept written materials without an accompanying oral presentation. Please be advised that all statements submitted to the Court, whether oral or in writing, will not be treated as confidential.
