In a September 15, 2004, Notice to the Bar, the Supreme Court announced that pursuant to N.J.S.A. 2A:84A-35, it had adopted a number of amendments to the New Jersey Rules of Evidence. All of the amendments related to the elimination of gender-biased language. The affected Rules include N.J.R.E. 101, 303, 404, 602, 705, 801, 803, and 804.
There having been no legislative action in respect of the Rule amendments as provided for by N.J.S.A. 2A:84A-36, they became effective on July 1, 2005.
