Coordination of Volunteer Programs
The Morris/Sussex Vicinage currently is fortunate to have almost 600 individuals who have volunteered to work in the various volunteer programs that exist in each county. They are Child Placement Review (CPR); Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA); Juvenile Conference Committee (JCC); Supervised Visitation in the Family Division and Judicial Assistant in the Court. In the Municipal Division, volunteers serve on mediation panels known as the Community Dispute Resolution Committee Program (CDRC). At present, efforts are geared toward the recruitment of volunteers for all programs.
As of October 1, 1994, all new volunteers are required to attend six to eight hours of training that will introduce the volunteers to the court system. The training will teach several fundamental skills such as communication, conflict resolution, problem solving, and cultural diversity.
The coordination of volunteer programs is handled by the Assistant Trial Court Administrator, Elizabeth Domingo. The Vicinage Volunteer Advisory Committee, chaired by the Assistant Trial Court Administrator, is made up of volunteers, program coordinators and court managers to assist in the planning and developing of volunteer based services, as part of the court/community partnership. Individuals interested in volunteering in any program or anyone who would like additional information should contact the Assistant Trial Court Administrator at 973-579-0738 or write to Elizabeth Domingo, Assistant Trial Court Administrator, Sussex County Judicial Center, 43- 47 High Street, Newton, N.J. 07860.
