Criminal Division
The Middlesex County Criminal Courts are located at 56 Paterson St., New Brunswick, N.J. Hours of operation are weekdays from 8:30 AM through 4:30 PM. The trial work of the division is divided among the Presiding Judge and six additional judges assigned to this division. The division is organized with an
executive componant consisting of the Presiding Judge and the Criminal Division Manager
Assisting the judges with the day-to-day administration of
cases is the Criminal Division Manager who is responsible for the overall operation of the Criminal Courts, including caseflow and management of court support personnel within the following units:

This office is the central repository for Criminal Court files
and is responsible for processing gun permits, municipal court
appeals, expungements, filing of general motions. Criminal records
also makes available a public access terminal for those interested
in conducting record searches by name.

This office is responsible for processing criminal complaints,
including coordination of judges calendars, investigation and
preparation of Presentence and Pretrial Intervention reports for the
Court and processing indigence determinations for legal
representation by the Public Defender's Office. Special programs
include the Treatment Assessment Service Center (TASC). TASC
conducts standardized Drug/Alcohol evaluations of court involved
individuals for the Criminal Court. Additionally, staff coordinate
referrals and placement for TASC involved clients requiring
specialized treatment.

This unit conducts criminal bail investigations for the Court on
a daily basis for individuals arrested and detained at the Middlesex
County Adult Correction Center. This unit also screens referrals for
the A.S.A.P. (Adult Substance Abuse Program) through daily bail
reviews, M.C.A.C.C. staff and inmate requests.
