Hormone Replacement Therapy

For many years women have been taking medication that includes synthetic hormones to treat symptoms during menopause. There are several pharmaceutical companies that have manufactured and sold these products. Numerous plaintiffs have filed cases against these companies claiming that hormone replacement therapy has caused them to develop breast cancer, or caused other problems. Defendants deny liability for these claims. The Supreme Court has ordered all cases involving HRT products be assigned to Honorable Carol E. Higbee, J.S.C. for coordinated management in Atlantic County, New Jersey.

In order to more efficiently distribute the mass tort caseload among the three New Jersey designated mass tort sites, on January 10, 2006, the Supreme Court transferred all pending and future HRT litigation from the Atlantic Vicinage to the Middlesex Vicinage to be handled by the Hon. Bryan Garruto. On September 1, 2007, the Supreme Court reassigned all such matter to Judge Jamie D. Happas
