Welcome to jury duty. Jury Service is both an honor and a duty of citizenship. As a juror, you will have the opportunity to observe, participate in, and increase your knowledge about the operation of our court system and the judicial branch of government. Those who serve find it to be a rewarding experience and we anticipate that you will also.
Thank you for serving.

Failure to Report

Dress Code
Jurors must wear clothing appropriate for an appearance in court. Shorts, T-shirts, or clothing containing statements or offensive symbols are not permitted. In addition, work uniforms, including police uniforms, should not be worn.
Courthouse Security
All persons entering the Courthouse, including jurors, are subject to security screening. This action is taken in order to ensure everyone's safety. Purses and other carried items, such as brief cases and backpacks, will be x-rayed. Chemical agents and anything resembling a weapon will not be permitted in the Courthouse. Such items should be left at home or in your vehicle. The fewer metal items you are carrying, the faster you will pass through the screening area.
Courtroom Regulations
If You Are Selected As A Juror
If you're chosen for a jury, the judge will instruct you regarding the trial schedule, reporting times, recesses, etc. The trial judge's instructions will take precedence over any general instructions given in the juror assembly area.
You must wear your juror badge at all times, including during lunch.
Juror Parking
Smoking Policy
The courthouse is a non-smoking facility. You may smoke outside the main entrance. If you do so, please inform jury staff so that we are aware of your location at all times.
Employment Protection
Please be aware that N.J.S.A.2B:20-17 protects jurors from employment related retaliation and provides for the possibility of both criminal and civil sanctions.
Emergency Closings
You can obtain courthouse closing information on television station WNYW Fox channel 5 ("Good Day, New York "), or by calling 973-247-8530 after 6:30 AM. Courthouse closing information is also available on the Internet at http://www.judiciary.state.nj.us/closings.htm.
Term of Service
The term of service for Petit Jurors is as follows: Monday: 1 day or to the duration of 1 trial. Tuesday: 3 days or to the duration of one trial. If you are in the jury selection process at the end of your last day of service or if you have been selected for a trial, you will serve until completion of that selection process or the duration of that trial. If you are not involved in a jury selection at the end of your last day, you will be dismissed provided there are no unexpected trial demands for jurors.
Thank you, again, for your service as a juror.
