Welcome to jury service. Jurors are an essential and indispensable part of our justice system. In our country, the jury system is a constitutional mandate, which, as part of our Bill of Rights, protects the rights of both civil litigants and criminal defendants.

Note: This same reporting message is available by calling 732-519-3402 after 5:00 p.m. the night before your scheduled appearance. If the reporting message is not available both here and on the telephone, you must report to the courthouse at 8:00 a.m.

Failure to Report

Jurors who fail to report as summoned are subject to penalties, including fines and imprisonment. Call the jury office at 732-519-3200 x2 if you have any questions regarding your jury service.

Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA) Policy

Please advise the Jury Manager at 732-519-3472 if you require an accommodation in order to serve. If you are hearing impaired, please call 732-519-3432 for TTY service.

Dress Code

Jurors must wear clothing appropriate for an appearance in court. Shorts, T-shirts and clothing with statements or offensive symbols are not permitted. In addition, work uniforms, including police uniforms, should not be worn.

Courtroom Regulations

  • Cell phones, pagers and electronic devices must be turned off in the courtroom.
  • Reading materials such as newspapers, books and magazines are not permitted in the courtroom.
  • You are not permitted to bring food or beverages into the courtroom.

If You Are Selected As A Juror

  • The trial judge will instruct you regarding the trial schedule, reporting times and recesses. The judge's instructions will take precedence over any general instructions given in the jury assembly area.
  • You must wear your juror badge at all times, including during lunch.

Jury Fees

  • You will receive compensation for your service beginning at a rate of $5.00 per day for the first three days and $40.00 per day for each day thereafter. Full-time State employees, municipal employees, and those employed by a school district will not receive payment since they will continue to receive their regular pay.
  • Juror payroll is processed weekly so if your service extends across multiple weeks you will receive a separate check for each week. Payroll ends on Thursday; therefore, your attendance on Friday will be included in the following week's check.

Smoking Policy

The courthouse is a non-smoking facility. You may smoke outside the main entrance. Please sign out at the main desk before you leave the jury assembly room.

Employment Protection

Please be aware that N.J.S.A. 2B:20-17 protects jurors from employment related retaliation and provides for the possibility of both criminal and civil sanctions.

Term of Service

Petite jurors are required to serve for one day or one trial. If you are selected to serve on a trial, you must remain for the duration of jury selection and the trial. Once your service is completed, you will not be eligible to be selected again for three years.

Directions:

From Livingston Avenue coming from the North Brunswick area: Turn left onto New Street, go 1.5 blocks to the NEW STREET PARKING DECK, located on the left side of the street.

From East Brunswick, Old Bridge area: Take Rt. 18 North to the New Street exit, follow New Street through 3 traffic lights. The entrance to the NEW STREET PARKING DECK is a block and half up on your left.

From the Piscataway area: Take Rt. 18 South to the New Street exit, make your first right onto Neilson Street, make a left onto Church Street, go through one traffic light and one stop sign, entrance to the FERREN DECK is on your right.

From the South Brunswick area: Take Route 27 North which becomes French Street in New Brunswick; make a right onto Paterson Street . Proceed to the 3rd traffic light (George Street) and turn left. Go to the next traffic light and make a left onto Church Street. The entrance to the parking deck is two blocks up on the right.

From the Edison, Woodbridge area: Take Route 27 South, cross over bridge into New Brunswick, at 2nd traffic light turn left onto Neilson Street; make first right onto Church Street; FERREN DECK is on the right (1.5 blocks).

From Easton Avenue (coming from 287): Take Easton Avenue to the end; (downtown New Brunswick) turn left onto Albany Street, make first right onto Spring Street and next right onto Church Street; FERREN DECK is on the right.

Trucks or overflow parking: If you have an over-sized vehicle or the Ferren and New Street decks are full you may park in the PATERSON STREET DECK located on Paterson Street between French Street and Joyce Kilmer Avenue .

MORRIS STREET DECK is located at the intersection of Livingston Avenue and New Street .
