The Superior Court of Somerset, Hunterdon and Warren counties, Vicinage 13 of the New Jersey Judiciary, seeks volunteers in each county to serve on the Juvenile Conference Committees.
A committee is composed of six to nine citizen volunteers appointed by a family division judge. The program is designed to refer juveniles charged with a first or second minor offense to their local JCC, which acts as a community-based arm of the Family Court.
The juvenile, parent or guardian and complainant are invited to discuss the offense and related matters with the committee in a confidential setting. The JCC considers the facts and makes recommendations to the judge for a resolution that fosters the juvenile’s rehabilitation.
