Superior Court Seeks Volunteers to Work with Juveniles in Somerset, Hunterdon and Warren Counties

The Superior Court of Somerset, Hunterdon and Warren counties, Vicinage 13 of the New Jersey Judiciary, seeks volunteers in each county to serve on the Juvenile Conference Committees.

A committee is composed of six to nine citizen volunteers appointed by a family division judge. The program is designed to refer juveniles charged with a first or second minor offense to their local JCC, which acts as a community-based arm of the Family Court.

The juvenile, parent or guardian and complainant are invited to discuss the offense and related matters with the committee in a confidential setting. The JCC considers the facts and makes recommendations to the judge for a resolution that fosters the juvenile’s rehabilitation.

For more information about the program and application process in Somerset and Hunterdon counties, contact Katherine Omoifo at 908-231-7600, ext. 7381; at Katherine.Omoifo@judiciary.state.nj.us; or at Hunterdon Justice Center, 65 Park Ave., Flemington, NJ 08822.

For Warren County, contact Maritza Ahmed at 908- 475-6170; at Maritza.Ahmed@judiciary.state.nj.us; or at Superior Court, Attn: Family Division, 413 Second St., Belvidere, NJ 07823.

All applicants are subject to a criminal background check, including fingerprinting. Volunteers are trained prior to beginning their volunteer service.
