Morris/Sussex Vicinage Holds Expungement Seminar

By Janie Rodriguez
Ombudsman
Morris/Sussex Vicinage

As part of its ongoing speaker’s bureau series, Morris/Sussex Vicinage hosted an expungement seminar on June 22 at the Morris County Library in Whippany.

The two-hour seminar provided timely information on the types of offenses that can be expunged, the expungement process and the importance of having a clean record when seeking employment.

Judge Michael Paul Wright, who serves in the family division in Morris County, moderated the panel discussion.

Supervising Assistant Morris County Prosecutor Catherine Broderick explained the New Jersey expungement statute. Attorneys Vijayant Pawar and Ben A. Kaplan provided a detailed explanation of the expungement process, answered questions and explained how to contact the local lawyer’s referral service.

Ombudsman Janie Rodriguez distributed brochures on the ombudsman program, explained how to locate the expungement packet on the Judiciary’s website, njcourts.com, and provided contact information for the local and statewide Legal Services offices.
