Judiciary Celebrated Women in Leadership During Women's History Month

In honor of the 30th anniversary of Women’s History Month, the New Jersey Judiciary in March published a series of biographies online to celebrate the achievements of several women who have made lasting contributions to the court system in New Jersey. The biographies are posted at njcourts.com.

“Our court system, indeed our state, is stronger, fairer and better because of the contributions of these great women,” said Judge Glenn A. Grant, acting administrative director of the courts. “We owe to them not only our gratitude, but our ongoing commitment to carrying on their legacy. The New Jersey courts will continue to lead the nation in ensuring equal access to justice for all of those who come to us seeking the protection of their rights.”

Among those who were honored were Deborah T. Poritz, the first woman to serve as chief justice; Marie L. Garibaldi, the first woman named to the Supreme Court; Sybil R. Moses, the first woman to serve as assignment judge; Libby E. Sachar, the first woman to be named to the Superior Court bench and Sylvia B. Pressler, the first woman named presiding judge for administration of the Appellate Division. Click here to read the biographies.
