Awards and Honors
Essex Vicinage Trial Court Administrator Collins E. Ijoma has been awarded the 2007 Star Award by the Institute of Court Management (ICM) for excellence in the advancement of court administration.
The Star Award is conferred on an ICM fellow who demonstrates excellence in court administration development through leadership and education.
Ijoma has dedicated his career to improving judicial education and training for court staff, both in Essex Vicinage and abroad. He was instrumental in bringing ICM’s Court Management Program curriculum to New Jersey, and he has supported New Jersey court managers in pursuing the Court Executive Development Program (CEDP).
As chair of the New Jersey Judiciary’s Education and Training Committee, Ijoma helped establish 10 standards for a comprehensive statewide training program. He sponsors a quarterly management convocation that brings speakers and programs to New Jersey in support of the professional development of court managers.
Ijoma also has worked with international colleagues from Nigerian courts and from the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court in St. Lucia to help them improve electronic recording and caseflow management.
Ijoma completed the Court Executive Development Program (CEDP) and became an ICM Fellow in 1991. He was elected to the National Association for Court Management (NACM) Board of Directors in 2000 and served as president of NACM from 2004 to 2005.
He is the immediate past chair of the New Jersey Judiciary’s Administrative Council and is vice president of the International Association for Court Administration.
