Request to the Bar

This is a request to the Bar practicing in Hudson County for its assistance with regard to addressing mail to the appropriate office in order to ensure the timely processing of all correspondence and/or pleadings pertaining to Law Division Civil, Special Civil Part and General Equity matters. The Bar’s cooperation not only will be of assistance to the court, but it will benefit lawyers and litigants by insuring that whatever you are filing/submitting is directed to the right place or court as expeditiously as possible.

Almost all matters in Hudson County in the Civil Division and Special Civil are assigned to case management teams and a "pre-trial" judge based on the docket number of the case (last two digits of docket number preceding hyphen). For example, in docket number Hud-L-0012-01, assignment would be made to the team and judge covering #12; in SCP-DC-002564-01, the case management team and the pre-trial judge would be determined by #64. For General Equity matters, the docket entry clerk/calendar coordinator is Helen Flood and the pre-trial judge is Judge Olivieri unless you are otherwise notified.

On all mailings/deliveries to the court, you should clearly indicate on BOTH the mailing envelope AND the enclosed cover letter and/or items (1) Civil, Special Civil or General Equity, (2) the docket number of your case, and (3) whether the item you are enclosing is a "fee item" or a "non-fee item." All mail addressed to Civil, Special Civil and General Equity Divisions is hand sorted. This hand sorting takes considerable time and effort and the time lag between receipt in the courthouse mailroom and delivery to the proper case management team and/or judge would be considerably shortened by strict adherence to the above.

I. IF YOU HAVE AN ATTORNEY CHARGE ACCOUNT WITH THE CLERK OF THE SUPERIOR COURT, then, with regard to:

(a) the CIVIL DIVISION, the mailing envelope for all case filings or correspondence should be clearly addressed as follows:

Superior Court of New Jersey
Law Division, Civil
Brennan Courthouse
583 Newark Avenue
Jersey City, New Jersey 07306

Team # ____________

Docket # ___________

Fee Item ___________

Non-Fee Item________

(b) the SPECIAL CIVIL PART, the mailing envelope for all case filings or correspondence should be clearly addressed as follows:

Superior Court of New Jersey
SCP Case Management Office
Administration Building
595 Newark Avenue, Room 711
Jersey City, New Jersey 07306

Team # ____________

Docket # ___________

Fee Item ___________

(c) the GENERAL EQUITY DIVISION, the mailing envelope for all case filings or correspondence should be clearly addressed as follows:

Superior Court of New Jersey
General Equity Division
583 Newark Avenue
Jersey City, New Jersey 07306
Attention: Helen Flood

Docket # _____________

Fee Item _____________

Non-Fee Item _________

II. IF YOU DO NOT HAVE AN ATTORNEY CHARGE ACCOUNT WITH THE CLERK OF THE SUPERIOR COURT, then,

(a) all case filings with fees enclosed, payable by check or money order (do not send cash), including trial de novo fees, for all Civil, Special Civil and General Equity matters, should be forwarded to the court in a mailing envelope which is clearly addressed as follows:

Superior Court of New Jersey
Civil/Special Civil/General Equity Fee Office
595 Newark Avenue, Room G-9
Jersey City, New Jersey 07306

Civil__Special Civil__General Equity__

Docket # _________________________

Fee Item Enclosed

(b) all other "non-fee" case filings should be addressed and sent/delivered as is indicated in "I." above, indicating clearly on the mailing envelope that the enclosure is a "non-fee item." In the event the materials you are sending/delivering to the court contain both fee and non-fee items, then you should consider the filing as being a "fee item" filing.

I know and appreciate that the above may be somewhat time consuming, at least initially. However, if you would take the time to carefully read this request and then instruct your secretary/office staff to follow the protocol outlined herein, I am confident the time will be well spent in that your filings will be handled as expeditiously as possible and arrive where and when they are supposed to be.

For your information, I have provided a copy of the Civil/SCP TEAM & DOCKET # ASSIGNMENT.

I thank you in advance for your assistance and cooperation.
