Filing For An Expungement
The New Jersey Expungement laws, located in the New Jersey Statutes Annotated at N.J.S.A. 2C:52, provide for the clearing of certain juvenile and adult criminal records. Petitioners are required to follow all steps and requirements of the expungement process, as outlined in the court’s expungement packet, “How to Expunge Your Criminal and/or Juvenile Record.” The packet is available at the Essex Vicinage criminal records office, listed below, or on the court’s website at http://www.judiciary.state.nj.us/prose/10557_expunge_kit.pdf. This packet applies to both adult and juvenile expungements and is uniform statewide.
The fee to file an expungement application is $52.50. If filing by mail, send a check or money order made payable to Treasurer – State of New Jersey with your application. If filing in person, you can also pay cash. Applications for expungements in Essex Vicinage are filed at:
