General Probation Caseloads

The majority of probation cases are assigned to our general probation caseloads. These cases are assigned to probation officers according to where they live and also according to where they attend school. Atlantic County probation officers are assigned to 8 schools and conduct reporting in 7 different schools. Cape May County probation officers are assigned to three different schools and conduct reporting in those three schools.

In Atlantic County the general caseloads number about 55 cases per officer. In Cape May the general caseload number per officer is 50. The juveniles are placed on probation for crimes ranging from minor shoplifting to possession of weapons and armed robbery. The officers use a system of incentives and sanctions to gain compliance from the probationers.
