The Chief Justice of the New Jersey Supreme Court assisted by the Administrative Director of the Courts is responsible for the administration of all courts in the State. This executive component or executive team structure is mirrored at various levels throughout the New Jersey Courts. The State is divided into fifteen judicial districts, known as vicinages. Overall administration of a vicinage is the responsibility of the Assignment Judge. The Assignment Judge is the chief executive of a court district. Five presiding judges assist the Assignment Judge in overall leadership in the civil, criminal, family, general equity and municipal areas.


Working with the Assignment Judge in an executive team relationship is the Trial Court Administrator. The Trial Court Administrator is the chief non-judicial administrative officer in the vicinage. With the assistance of Division Managers the court administrator oversees nine divisions and provides a technical and leadership focus for a professional court organization.

The court administrator assists in managing the court to ensure quality service that is both efficient and effective.
